winter green

the green grows greener as the rains increase
the earth squelches and runs with muddy ooze
the summer burn, reduced to a rambling trickle
now rushes, hasty and impatient along the way

it is time she warns us,for the dark again
time to forget the long, days of summer light
the earth revolves and carries the faithful
in a never ending ballet through the seasons
